POLLENSA is now officially one of the most beautiful towns in Spain and joins just over 100 other towns belonging to the group.
It was elected in 2020, after passing a tough audit which has to see it reach 40 different targets but due to the pandemic, the formal ceremony was delayed until Friday August 27.
The initiative is based on the French model ‘Les Plus Beaux Villages de France’ and the Spanish network is part of and currently chairs the Federation of the Most Beautiful Peoples in the World, with networks in France, Italy, Belgium and Japan.
It was in 2019 that the association Pobles més Bonics d’Espanya proposed, that Pollensa become part of the quality brand and carried out, on its own initiative, the audit in the town.
Items covered in the audit included the care of heritage, the beauty of the town, quality of construction, harmony of the materials of the facades and the roofs, cleaning and conservation.
In addition, there was a review of symbolic and original decorative elements, permanent or temporary closure to the circulation of cars in the old quarter, organisation for the parking of vehicles, care of green areas, scheduled cultural activity and attention to traditions, among many others.
The event took place in the Cloister of the Convent of Santo Domingo and guests saw the traditional unveiling of the poster that accredits Pollensa as one of the most beautiful towns in the country.
Mayor Bartomeu Cifre said that for Pollensa “it is an honour and a pride to be one of the most beautiful towns in Spain and to obtain, with this recognition, visibility and renown at national and international level”.
