Heroic mum punches 65-pound mountain lion that dragged her 5-year-old son across the garden.

One heroic mum tackled and won a battle with a mountain lion with her bare hands after it grabbed hold of her young son and tried to drag him away from the family home.

The young boy who was only five years old was playing near the family home in Calabasas, California when he was shockingly approached by a mountain lion which weighed in at 65-pounds. The mountain lion grabbed the boy and ‘dragged him about 45 yards’ across the front garden according to Patrick Foy, spokesperson for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The heroic mum heard a noise from inside the house and soon discovered that her son was being attacked by the mountain lion.

Foy said: ‘The true hero of this story is his mom because she absolutely saved her son’s life,’

‘She ran out of the house and started punching and striking the mountain lion with her bare hands and got him off her son.’

The parents rushed the young boy to hospital in LA after the attack, as he was suffering from injuries to his head in his upper torso. Luckily he was said to be in a stable condition.

A Wildlife officer headed to the house to contain the mountain lion and was greeted by ‘an aggressive mountain lion crouching in the corner of the property’ in some bushes with its ‘ears back and hissing’.

‘Due to its behavior and proximity to the attack, the warden believed it was likely the attacking lion and to protect public safety shot and killed it on site,’ commented the wildlife department.

A DNA test was later performed to confirm that the mountain lion was the same lion that had attacked the young boy, and the test came back positive.
