The council is set to host a cycling race named after local athlete Fernando Wymmersch in Velez Malaga. Deputy Mayor Perez, and Councillor for Sports Hipolito Gomez, presented the race, which will take place on Sunday, September 6 at the Cultural Centre Nuestra Señora del Carmen. The politicians presented the race with the president of the Actrion Club Torre del Mar, Jose Maria Garcia, the club secretary, Antonio Gonzalez, and triathlete and son of Fernando Wymmersch, Niki Wymmersch. Deputy Mayor Perez said: “From the Mayor’s Office of Torre del Mar we continue to work to make our town a benchmark in sports.” Atencia wanted to “congratulate the organisation for having managed to bring to our town this race, which can be scored for the Malaga circuit. We hope that there will be a great participation, so we encourage all bicycle lovers to join us this Sunday.” Jose Maria Garcia said he, “wanted to thank the Mayor’s Office and the Department for Sports for Torre del Mar hosting this race.” He also thanked the council for paying tribute to the athlete, who he said worked to increase interest in sport.
