THE Popular University of Mijas has reopened with 2,700 students enrolled.

Mijas council has announced that the Popular University has this year attracted 2,700 students.
Hipolito Zapico, Councillor for Education, said: “We have about 2,700 students enrolled and 300 people are currently on waiting lists, which shows the confidence that the user has right now in the Popular University.”
He added that there are several new subjects this year, including, “the arrival of the Japanese workshop in La Cala or creative writing in Mijas. The goal we have set is to continue to increase educational variety to offer our residents all the courses they are asking for. At the moment we do not have the classes at 100 per cent of their capacity but we hope to increase occupancy throughout the course, always using all the anti Covid measures.”
The classrooms at the Popular University are also starting the course with numerous improvements to their furniture, including the art room where Cristina Aguilera teaches.
She said: “Today we are getting into the subject and everyone can come here, even if they don’t know anything about painting. This year, as a novelty, we are going to learn a very old technique, tempering the egg, so that the students can get out of the everyday that is oil, acrylic or watercolour.”
Those interested in registering for the Universidad Popular can visit www.up.mijas.es for more information on the classes on the Costa del Sol.
