Andalucian Minister of Health promotes joint vaccination campaign against Covid and influenza

The Andalucian Minister of Health is promoting a joint vaccination campaign against Covid and influenza.

The Andalucian Minister of Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, has once again defended the flu vaccination campaign, which will begin on October 14, bringing together the inoculation of the third dose against Covid-19 in Andalucia and the influenza jab.

Speaking to the media in Parliament, the Minister of Health has assured that both campaigns “are compatible” because they will be done “by administering one vaccine in one arm and another in the other. Right now there are enough professionals, we are going to carry out the flu and Covid vaccination campaign for the over 70 years to optimise human resources and time when managing them,” he said.

The minister said: “Last year, more than 1.8 million flu vaccines were administered without having to increase the number of personnel – now it is greatly increased and so we are going to keep part of that staff to guarantee quality and speed of service”.

Asked about what happens to people who have been vaccinated with different doses who then are inoculated with Pfizer for the third dose, the counsellor stated that “absolutely nothing happens”, adding that “vaccination studies showed the same level of immunity that if it were the same brand “.

Delays in Primary care

When questioned about the delay in getting a face-to-face appointment in Primary Care, Aguirre pointed out that there are some health districts “where we are actually still in very high numbers”, although he has defended that “we are lowering those averages”, also due to the normality that is being imposed.

However, the counsellor indicated that “in case it is necessary” any person “will be tended to by a professional in his local health centre at the moment”.
