VILLAJOYOSA decorated members of the Policia Local, Proteccion Civil and the public health system for their services during the pandemic.
The awards event at Villajoyosa’s Auditorium, attended by the local authorities and the central government’s sub-delegate Maria Araceli Poblador, was included in a ceremony honouring the Guardian Angels, the Policia Local’s patron saints.
Jose Alvarez, chief superintendent of the Villajoyosa force and Public Safety councillor Isabel Perona congratulated the officers and all the public security forces for their role during the pandemic.
“During lockdown, our security forces and health professionals carried out commendable work and went much further than their obligations,” added La Vila’s mayor Andreu Verdu.  “They showed their kindest, most compassionate and humanitarian side.”
Maria Araceli Poblador, the last to speak, referred to the banner declaring “Giving in is not an option” that the town hall had placed at the auditorium, used until recently as a mass vaccination centre.
“Everybody was rowing in the same direction, guaranteeing the success of the common aim of halting the spread of the virus,” Poblador said.
