The two Italian cyclists hit by a car, Luca Chirico and Simone Ravanelli, are out of danger. Bad luck is said to be following the Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec team.
The long list of riders injured this season has now been joined by Luca Chirico and Simone Ravanelli.
The injured Italian cyclists had been training for the last race of the season in the Padua area of Italy. They were hit by a car and seriously injured. Both are still in hospital but are said to be out of danger.
They were hit by a car as it left a petrol station and thrown to the other side of the road. Experts said they were lucky not to have been injured more severely.
The cyclists were immediately rescued and rushed to the nearby hospital in Abano Terme. X-ray examinations were quickly carried out to determine the seriousness of their wounds.
Chirico suffered from a compound fracture to his right collarbone. Ravanelli suffered from a fracture of the talus in his right ankle. He will need to be reassessed later in the week.
Team Androni Giocattoli took to Twitter and said: “Best wishes for a speedy recovery to our Simone Ravanelli and Luca Chirico who were hit by a car while training on the Padovan roads ahead of Sunday’s last race of the season.”
