Queen Elizabeth reacts to ‘Oldie of the Year’ title. Her Majesty believes “are as old as you feel.”

The Queen does not consider herself to be old. She is Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. At 95-years-old her Majesty has decided to decline the “Oldie of the Year” title. The British magazine, The Oldie, had offered her the title. The Queen believes that she does not meet “the relevant criteria.”

The magazine shared the Queen’s response to the offer of the title. The magazine has previously honoured former Prime Minister John Major and artist David Hockney with the title. Actor Olivia de Havilland is a former recipient too.

Her Majesty’s assistant private secretary, Tom Laing-Baker responded on behalf of the Queen. The letter from the Queen said: “Her Majesty believes you are as old as you feel, as such The Queen does not believe she meets the relevant criteria to be able to accept, and hopes you will find a more worthy recipient,”

The end of the letter read: “with Her Majesty’s warmest best wishes.”

After the Queen declined the award it went to another deserving recipient. The Oldie of the Year award was given to French-American actress and dancer Leslie Caron. Caron is 90 years old.

In response to the Queen, The Oldie magazine said: “Those warmest best wishes are of course heartily reciprocated by all of us at Oldie Towers and, I am sure, by all our readers.

“Long live The Queen! Perhaps in the future we will sound out Her Majesty once more.”
