NINE elderly residents are dead following a COVID outbreak at a nursing home in Lindow (Ostprignitz-Ruppin), Germany. According to reports on Thursday, December 2, the deceased were aged between 80 and 100-years-old.
District administrator’s advisor, Britta Avantario, said the residents died on different days and that there is currently a ban on visiting the entire facility.
The exact number of deaths has reportedly been withheld from the health department and the media until now but a full investigation has already been launched.
Most of the residents in the home in Lindow have been vaccinated twice, according to the Avantario, however, according to the facility, a booster vaccination planned for October had been postponed twice because no vaccine was available.
So far, only a few of the residents have received a booster vaccination.
It was also said that numerous employees in the home were also sick with coronavirus although no information was given on their vaccination status.
After an investigation was launched into the deaths, it was found that in the nursing home, in which residents are mainly in-patient care, employees were being tested on a daily basis, according to Avantario.
During the investigation, the nursing home was warned that it was obligatory to report deaths to the health department.
