Murder-suicide being investigated in Toledo, Castilla-La Mancha.

BREAKING NEWS – A woman has been murdered in Maqueda (Toledo), Castilla-La Mancha on Thursday, March 3 and the body of a man has also been found, police are now investigating the possibility of a murder-suicide.

According to early reports, a 45-year-old woman was shot in a service area of the A-5 in the town of Maqueda, Toledo as she was making her way to work at the Mesón El Castellano at around 8.55 am.

The Mayor of Maqueda, Andrés Congosto Rodríguez, told CMM, that the woman was shot at the door of the restaurant as she was about to go to work. Rodríguez said that about 200 metres from the establishment in Maqueda, the lifeless body of a young man was also found.

Guardia Civil believe that the man murdered the woman and then took his own life, as reported by EFE. They are now investigating it as a possible act of gender violence as they believe the man and the woman were or had been in a relationship.

However, there was no complaint or previous history in the gender violence system, officers said.

The Guardia Civil explained that a traffic patrol received a tip-off from a member of the public after hearing a loud gunshot, with emergency service 112 reporting to Radio Castilla-La Mancha that bodies had been found.

Mayor Rodríguez also believed that it was a sexist crime and has said that although the victim was not from Maqueda, they will hold a memorial or day of mourning for the young woman.

The news will spark similarities to the couple found dead in a bakery in Algarinejo (Granada) in January, which was later confirmed to be a case of gender violence.
