Guardia Civil officers manning a routine checkpoint in the Region of Murcia intercepted a lorry driver on the RM-19 today, Saturday, March 19. He subsequently exceeded the maximum blood alcohol level.
The incident occurred on the road that connects the two municipalities of Puerto de la Cadena and San Javier. Officers from the Cartagena barracks pulled the articulated lorry over and subjected its driver to a breath test.
A result of 0.65, and then 0.66 milligrams of alcohol per litre of expired air was produced. This figure exceeds the maximum allowed rate by more than four times. In the case of professional drivers that is 0.15 mg/litre.
He will now be investigated, and proceedings have been instructed against him. The driver is accused of being the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety.
According to the report, the driver had just loaded vegetables in Torre Pacheco, and was on his way to San Cayetano. There he was due to collect a second load to complete the trailer. He was then scheduled to drive the lorry and its cargo to Switzerland.
The driver has been placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction of San Javier, along with the proceedings instructed. A replacement driver from the same company had to travel to take charge of the vehicle, and the merchandise, as reported by laopiniondemalaga.es.
