The Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Madrid has been hit with a spate of robberies, the latest is some 400,000 euros worth of radiology and endoscopy equipment that has been stolen.

The theft of the equipment was first noticed by a hospital work on Monday March 14th, the theft occurring overnight. Radiological and exploration material, such as endoscopes, were taken in the theft affecting the ability of the hospital to carry out some diagnostics.

According to police this is not the first theft of this type with similar equipment being stolen from the Hospital de la Paz in January, and in 2019 from the Príncipe de Asturias Hospital in Alcalá de Henares.

The Guardia Civil were called to investigate the theft, which followed a similar incident in the same week that resulted in the arrest of two nurses from Isabel Zendal Nursing Hospital.

In that case the two nurses said they stole medical supplies worth more than 5,000 euros, which they said they did to send to those in need in Ukraine where the war has resulted in supplies of essential medical supplies running low.

Neither of the two have a prior record.

The Guardia have not given any details as to who they suspect of the theft or the motive, however given the value and the size of the radiology and endoscopy equipment stolen they are confident that someone will have witnesses the crime.
