The appeal was launched by Kunis, who was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine. Her family moved to the US in 1991 however she still describes herself as a proud Ukrainian.
The couple looked to raise 30 million US dollars (27 million euros) a target that was reached last Thursday March 17th, and which is in addition to their matching donations made to rental company Airbnb and freight transporter Flexport for up to three million dollars (2.7 million euros).
She wrote: “Ukrainians are proud and brave people who deserve our help in their time of need.
“This unjust attack on Ukraine and humanity at large is devastating and the Ukrainian people need our support.”
The couple, who married in 2015 and share two children, have promised to do “everything we can” to ensure that the money “finds maximum impact with those in need”. They aren’t the only ones who have made such a pledge with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively also providing matching donations up 1 million US dollars (900,000 euros).
Kunis and Kutcher have urged people to support UNHCR efforts in Ukraine and have promised to provide further matched funding to help with the ongoing crisis.
