Carolina Darias told La Sexta the fourth dose of the Covid vaccine will be administered to the whole population later this year, with Spain’s Ministry of Health only needing to “specify when”.
The Minister of Health clarified that the fourth round of Covid jabs wasn’t just going to be for people over the age of 80 or for care home residents as had been previously reported, but would be available to the whole of Spain.
“There will be a fourth dose for the entire population, this is how the Public Health Commission has decided, what remains is to decide when,” Darias told the paper.
The 56-year-old hinted that the vaccine would “probably” be rolled out in the autumn when the updated omicron vaccines are ready.
As noted, the new vaccines adapted to Omicron’s BA.4 and BA.5 variants – which are currently responsible for 45 per cent of infections in Spain – are expected to arrive in the country in the autumn according to “the contracts that the Government of Spain has signed through the European Union with the pharmaceutical companies.”
Fernando Simón, the director of Spain’s Centre for Emergencies and Health Alerts of the Ministry of Health, spoke earlier this week about the fourth dose of the vaccine – which was endorsed for those over 80 years of age by the European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC), and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) back in April.
He stated that “we must wait for the opinion of the experts”, but in his opinion, the fourth dose is “perhaps not necessary” in Spain, as reported by Cadenaser.

This is madness, the old vaccine was for the original Alpha strain (at best) and the virus has moved on now rendering the old vaccine more dangerous than contracting Omicron, additionally Pfizer are still in research as to the efficacy of the unlicenced vaccine with regards to Omicron so this statement makes no Medical or legal sense. Bill Gates also confirmed earlier in the year that “sadly Omicron has done a better job of immunizing the planets population than any Vaccines” . Draw your own conclusions from this?
4th dose? Ar people still willing to take the mRNA vaccins that don’t work and damage lots of people? Silly.

Three is enough for us, too many side effects vs too little research into short & long term medical problems. I have always been a supporter of immunization, but this is getting ridiculous.
