The Local Police of Elche arrested a 49-year-old man for trying to force entry into a car parked in front of the National Police Station, just a few minutes after being identified in the police station for attempting to steal another vehicle.
The events took place on Sunday, June 19, at around 11.30 pm when police in Elche were called to Avenida de la Unesco after receiving complaints that a person was apparently tampering with the lock of a car door.
When police officers arrived they found the man with a metal grille in his hand, apparently taken from a nearby drain, which the man explained was because he was “hunting for iron”.
The car he was alleged to have tried to break into had no signs of damage but officers were able to spot fingerprints and hand marks on the windows and exterior of the car, so alongside not carrying any identification and theft of a metal grille, officers took the man to the National Police Station in Elche for questioning.
After completing formalities and warning the man not to steal any more grilles or hang around people’s cars, officers allowed the man was allowed to leave.
However, while police processed the paperwork, they watched as the man tried to break into a car parked outside the police station.
He was immediately arrested.
