A much-loved resident of Torre del Mar, in the province of Malaga, had his very own square named after him in an emotional ceremony.

Antonio Lopez Rosique, known as Antoñin to those around him, now has a square named after him on the Virgen del Carmen Paseo Maritimo in Torre del Mar as a tribute from the Velez-Malaga Town Hall.

The mayor of Velez-Malaga, Antonio Moreno, and the first deputy mayor of the municipality and deputy mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesus Perez Atencia, inaugurated the square on June 27 in a ceremony also attended by several members of Antoñin’s family and friends.

Perez Atencia said: “Today, Torre del Mar pays tribute to one of its most illustrious residents, for his work and contribution to our society, for always being involved in the social and business fabric of our town and for so many years of dedication and love for Torre del Mar.”

Antonio Moreno Ferrer expressed his immense satisfaction at paying such a well-deserved tribute to Antonio Lopez Rosique, and highlighted “the great amount of heart he always puts into everything he does” and his “important values, such as solidarity and unity”.
