First day of Easyjet pilots strike in Spain has little impact on Malaga airport

The strike by Easyjet pilots in Spain has had very little impact at Malaga airport with only only one delayed flight.

The first day of strike in August by EasyJet pilots has had very little impact on Malaga airport. As reported by the Sitcpla union that convened the industrial action, eight flights were cancelled in total nationally, as reported by diariodesevilla.

Six of the suspended flights were at El Prat airport in Barcelona, with their origin or destination in London, Geneva and Freiburg. The other two occurred at the Palma de Mallorca facility, with the origin and destination of London.

Another three flights with their origin or destination in Barcelona, ​​Palma de Mallorca, and Malaga, suffered delays.

This action by EasyJet pilots relates to their working conditions. They are insisting the airline returns them to the same salaries that they had before the pandemic. Strike action is scheduled at the bases from which Easyjet operates flights in Spain, namely the facilities in Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and Malaga.

After more than six months of negotiating a new agreement, the company has rejected the three proposals put on the table by the Sitcpla representatives. Instead, Easyjet has apparently offered lower working conditions to its pilots, according to the union.

Today’s strike was the first day of three periods of stoppages scheduled in August. The current action will run until Sunday 14. Then they will strike again from Friday, August 19 to Sunday, August 21, and also from Saturday, August 27 until Monday, August 29.
