Fans of Thomas the Tank Engine have reportedly been banned from calling The Fat Controller fat as it has been labelled as a slur.

Instead, he is to be referred to by his real name, Sir Topham Hatt, the Daily Mail confirmed on Friday, August 12.

In 2018 Thomas the Tank Engine was updated to become more multicultural and introduce female characters after being accused of sexism, racism and classism

The new female characters added were Isla, an Australian flying doctor; Hong-mei, a number 1 blue tank engine from China; and Churubala, a female railway controller from India.

The Thomas the Tank Engine universe was the work of an Anglican minister, Reverend Wilbert Awdry.

In 1942 began telling stories about trains to amuse his son Christopher, who had come down with measles.

Fans were not quite so supportive of the move. One tweeted: “They are now coming after the Fat Controller from Thomas the Tank Engine apparently it’s a slur 🤡”

Another said: “As a fat person I think this is deranged”

One responded: “The woke loons are now saying ‘the Fat Controller in Thomas the Tank Engine causes offence 😩😩😩😩”
