The Nerja Athletics Club, from the province of Malaga, has received a prestigious award for its ongoing commitment to sport.

The Nerja Athletics Club has received the La Caixa Foundation Award for the Commitment to Sport in acknowledgement of its efforts to organise and promote high-level sporting events. The Malaga Association of Sports Journalists presented the award at the Malaga Sports Awards Gala, held on September 15 at the Edgar Neville Auditorium of the Provincial Council.

The Nerja Athletics Club was represented by the athletes Álvaro Fernández, Alejandro Romero and Lilian Cazorla, as well as the coach Francisco Espejo. They were accompanied by the councillor for Sports, Daniel Rivas, who congratulated the Nerja Athletics Club on behalf of the Town Hall, stating that the award bears testimony to all their effort, hard work and dedication. “The people of Nerja should feel very proud of the club’s successful track record,” he said.

Founded in December 1983, the Nerja Athletics Club currently has more than 850 athletes. According to the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, it has been the best Andalucian club since 2007 and it has also become an important organiser of high-level sporting events.
