Teulada Town Council, through its contracted pest control company, is to carry out treatments in the main pine tree areas of the town.

Endotherapy techniques and spraying with biological products are being used for this work, Teluda Town Hall confirmed on Wednesday, September 28.

Endotherapy is a technique that consists of drilling holes in the trunk of the conifer and then injecting systemic products that are dispersed through the tree’s sap. In this way, the larvae of the pine processionary feed on the needles of the tree and die when they are ingested.

The work will be carried out in the pine forest areas located inside the San Vicente Ferrer public school in Teulada, the urban forest, Portichol municipal park, Pinaret de la costa and the Town Hall.

Work will also be carried out spraying biological products in the large pine groves of the municipality such as outside the San Vicente Ferrer public school in Teulada, the Portitxol path, Platgetes, Calle Río Jalon, Calle Oviedo, Camino Viejo del Portet, Calle Ifach and Calle Tarragona.

The councillor for Health, Susanne Katzgrau, has asked for “citizen collaboration from those owners who have pine trees in their homes, as they are responsible for their treatment as they are in private areas.”

She added: “It is very important that these areas are also treated so that the pests do not spread.”
