Futsal coach Rui Guimarães has died aged 37 of a heart attack, it has been confirmed

The tragic incident happened while the Portuguese coach was leading his team, Al Tadamon of Kuwait, during a friendly match in Kuwait.

During the match, he began to feel pain in his chest and was rushed to a hospital where he died of a heart attack.

The president of the Portuguese Football Federation, Fernando Gomes, spoke of the “premature and unexpected” death of Guimarães, calling him “a benchmark in Portuguese futsal”.

Futsal is an association football-based game played on a hard court smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors.

The Portuguese coach began his career in FJ Antunes and was this season in Kuwait after a successful path in the United Arab Emirates where he was for ten years. 

Tributes were led by Fernando Gomes, president of the FPF, who said: “It is with deep sadness that I regret the death of Rui Guimarães, a reference of Portuguese futsal that over the years of activity raised the national flag for the various countries where he passed.

“From Switzerland to Kuwait, passing through Romania, Italy, Greece Chéquia, Nicaragua, and the Emirates, Rui Guimarães demonstrated, from a very young age, his technical skills and leadership ability.

“He leaves us very early and unexpectedly. To his family and friends, I extend my deepest condolences.”

Marquinhos Xavier, coach of the Brazilian Futsal Team, said: “On my behalf and on behalf of Brazilian Futsal I bring the most sincere feelings for the loss of friend and great professional of our sport.

“Extensive condolences to friends and family of Rui Guimarães. Rest in peace, dear Coach Rui!”

Futsalplanet.com said: “Today we lost a futsal coaching friend and globetrotter. Rest in peace Rui Guimarães. Futsal people, our people.”

Pasión Futsal said: “Sad news. Coach Rui Guimaraes passed away on Wednesday in Kuwait of a heart attack. The 37-year-old Portuguese was in charge of his team Al Tadhamon Club.

“He began to feel unwell and was taken to hospital. He died en route.”

Steve Harris wrote: “Loss of a friend Rui Guimarães, 37, fell victim to a heart attack.

Tragedy struck when coaching current team Al-Tadhamon SC (UAE).

“He had coached in Switzerland, Romania, Italy, Greece, Czech, Kuwait & even Nicaragua, winning many titles. Speechless…”

      Another Sudden Death! how many will come now that vaccinations have had time to embed themselves into the bodies of tall those vaccinated. The UK reported a 40% increase in deaths 2021-2022 as Spain also reported a 30% increase with the majority classed as “Sudden Death due to heart attacks. I know what’s coming Christmas and it isn’t Santa.
