Premier League club Aston Villa have fired Steven Gerrard as their manager after losing to Fulham.

Steven Gerrard has been fired by Premier League club Aston Villa. His sacking came after a heavy 3-0 loss against Fulham this evening, Thursday, October 20. “We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future”, said a spokesperson for the Midlands side.

Replacing Dean Smith in November 2021, Gerrard’s reign at Villa Park has been very short-lived. He departs with the team hovering just above the relegation zone having won only two matches all season since he arrived from Rangers.

In his 11-month tenure, the 42-year-old England and Liverpool legend managed just 13 wins in 40 matches with Villa.

McGinn continued: “It doesn’t matter who’s in charge of that team. It’s nothing to do with the manager – the players have to look at themselves in the mirror. We’ve definitely not lost faith in the manager – it’s us who are responsible”.

“He’s a top manager, he’s hurting just as the players are. We’ve let him down tonight. It’s up to us now to put in a performance for him”, he added. Gerrard suffered the indignity of Villa fans chanting for him to be gone during the match.

“I understand the fans’ frustration. There can be a nasty side to those shouts. The supporters are very demanding so I can understand the frustration. You’re playing at a top level and if you’re not performing, you get criticised”, Mc Ginn admitted, as reported by bbc.com.
