Applying for a visa can be a stressful and time-consuming task, particularly after Brexit, with so many documents to prepare, lots of appointments, another language to contend with and various requirements to meet.

It is highly recommended that citizens wishing to obtain their Spanish visa seek the help of an experienced, professional and knowledgeable entity to help navigate the multiple steps, such as the multicultural team at Spain Homes.

Non-EU citizens, which British nationals now are, require a national visa when they are going to stay in Spain for more than 90 days (in any 180-day period) for the purposes of work, study or establishing their residence. Although there are a few visa options, the Golden Visa is extremely popular.

The Golden Visa in Spain

The most common visa now is the Golden Visa. This visa allows Non-EU nationals to acquire residency and citizenship in certain countries, including Spain. It also allows these visa holders to move around the Schengen Area without being subject to border checks by real estate investment.

Despite its popularity, it is notoriously difficult to follow the procedures required to get the Golden Visa, but the team at Spain Homes has helped thousands of happy clients who are now enjoying the Mediterranean sun!

For how long is the Golden Visa granted?

In the first stage, you get an investor visa for 1 year. At the end of this first year, you will receive a Golden Visa (Spanish Investor Visa) for 1 year.

Following this, you can renew and extend your residence permit at 2-year intervals, as long as you continue to keep your investment in Spain.

After 5 years, you can apply for a 5-year visa if you meet the other necessary requirements. After 10 years of regular residence in Spain, you can apply for citizenship.

How do I know if I qualify for the Golden Visa in Spain?

The Golden Visa is a residency by investment programme. You can move to Spain on this visa if you invest a certain amount in real estate.

You qualify to apply for a Golden Visa if you:

  • Have proof of having made one of the investment options
  • You are over the age of 18
  • You have valid health insurance in Spain
  • You have enough financial means to provide for yourself and any family members
  • You have a clear criminal history in any of the places you have resided
  • You are not on Spain’s list of undesirable people
  • You have not previously been rejected for a Schengen Visa

The Spanish Golden Visa can be acquired through a few different investment options:

  • Minimum €500,000 property purchase that may be spread over more than one property
  • Minimum €2 million investment to Spanish Public Debt
  • Minimum €1 million stock purchase from Spanish companies
  • Minimum €1 million investment to a Spanish investment fund

(The prices stated above are net amounts without taxes and finance)
