BREAKING: Children attacked by knifeman in southern France

Updated: Saturday, June 10, at 21:48 pm

The man accused of attacking French toddlers in a park near Lake Annecy, named as Syrian refugee Abdelmasih Hanoun, 31, is being held by French police on attempted murder charges.

The attacker left his own wife and young daughter behind in Sweden where they had already acquired refugee status, making the incident seem strange as well as highly distressing. It was reported that he hasn’t been communicating with police and has been curled up in the corner of his cell.

There was alleged to have been some religious invocation during the stabbing by the Syrian-Christian suspect, but the man has now after a mental assessment been cleared to stand trial.

He will be held in custody while his case is investigated. While video footage of the incident had been uploaded to Twitter, DC_Draino reported that:

“Almost every video of the Syrian “refugee” stabbing multiple children in a park in France has been scrubbed from the biggest free speech platform in the world. How much do you want to bet that order was given by the EU gov’t to hide the violence caused by their open border policies?”

The incident has re-ignited the debate on immigration policy in France and while Twitter appears to have removed all videos, footage of the man wielding a knife in a playground can be seen on the BBC News site.

Gérald Darmanin, France’s Interior Minister said the attack happened near Lake Annecy, in south-eastern France today, June 8.

The attacker was arrested today but little is known about what provoked the attack, with victims only around three years old. Thankfully none were killed but at least two are in critical condition.

Sky News posted this on Twitter saying: “More updates on the knife attack in southeast France. The knife attacker, who has been taken to custody is a Syrian refugee and was not known to security agencies. The motivation of the attack remains unclear.”

Six children were injured according to local reports, as some of them were attacked whilst sitting in their pushchairs. An elderly man was also stabbed as the perpetrator fled the scene.

Police shot the man in the legs and apprehended him but it is difficult to understand what could have motivated such a senseless attack.
Emmanuel Macron said on Twitter: “An absolutely cowardly attack this morning in a park in Annecy. Children and an adult are between life and death. The nation is in shock. Our thoughts are with them, their families and the emergency services.”

More news will follow on this incident as it comes in.
