Madrid has everything. Good weather, amazing sports, exciting nightlife, beautiful architecture, 5-star restaurants, the list goes on. For years, however, people have chosen to go elsewhere in Spain because the capital is missing just one thing – the beach. But that is all beginning to change now and we have the brilliant imaginations of local bar owners to thank. There is now no need to travel over 300km to get the beach experience, just go to these trendy bars instead!
Right next to the Temple of Debod in the centre of the city lies an urban bar that has been designed to make it feel just like you are on the beach. Sand covers the entire floor of this outside bar which is littered with palm trees, sleeping hammocks, bamboo umbrellas and sun loungers.
To go with the perfect beach atmosphere, there is an extensive cocktail menu to match. 27 different concoctions are offered, including 11 signature cocktails that you won’t find anywhere else. Plus, between 5 and 8 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays, it is happy hour and cocktails are just €7.
If it is more of a beach restaurant-type vibe you are looking for, then Ojala has you covered. Although from the outside it looks like a normal bar in the heart of Madrid, dig a little deeper and you’ll find a quaint beach restaurant in the basement.
With amazing club sandwiches and delicious smash burgers that you would find at a beach BBQ, Ojala has been the place to go since 2004. For lovers of brunch, too, this beach restaurant is one of the best in the city. Homemade lemonade, fresh sangria and craft bottled beers are just some of the drinks on offer to give you that holiday feel. Located in the centre of Justicia between the Chueca and Alonso Martinez metro stops, Ojala is not a Madrid experience to miss out on.
