British-based developer, Taylor Wimpey España, has recorded a significant increase in reservations, with the Costa del Sol being its most buoyant market in the first few months of 2024 and interest has been particularly strong in penthouses.

The reasons buyers give are first and foremost, the panoramic views that the top floor apartments offer towards the sea or the mountains. In addition, they say that penthouses offer a greater sense of privacy and exclusivity.

Another of the features most frequently mentioned by penthouse buyers is the outdoor spaces. The large terraces that these types of homes tend to have extend the living space to the outside.

Finally, buyers highlight the natural light and brightness. Being located at the top of buildings, penthouses tend to receive more natural light throughout the day. This makes the interior spaces feel more open, spacious and welcoming.

But are there any downsides? Buyers report a couple and the first relates to the outdoor space which, as noted above, many consider an advantage. However, how often will you use the solarium when it’s over 30 degrees in the summer? The penthouses are also more exposed to inclement weather because, when it rains on the Costa del Sol, it really rains.

The last thing to note has to be price: buyers pay a premium for the top floors so make sure you think carefully about how much you will take advantage of the upsides before signing on the dotted line.
