Breath-taking views, vibrant culture, and delicious cuisine; there are countless advantages to living in Spain, and all of them can be experienced for affordable prices, as Spain rates amongst the cheapest countries to live in Europe.
Property Guides´ Cost of Living Overseas Index revealed; “We found Spain to have the lowest cost of living compared to the other countries analyzed. To put that into context for UK buyers, the same ´basket of goods´ that cost £1,996 (€2,363) in the UK costs just £1,295 (€1,533) pounds in Spain.” According to numbeo.com, rent is also 40 per cent lower in Spain than in the UK, making it a favoured place in the sun.
These are the top villages in Spain for an affordable and paradisal life.
Former fishing village, La Cala de Mijas has now become an “ideal” spot for those “seeking a relaxed pace of life while still having everything they need on hand,” said Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey España. “It´s also close to Fuengirola, Marbella, and Malaga, for those who want to dip in and out of city life, while golfers can enjoy the fairways of La Cala Golf Resort.
The stunning village has a population of just 4,000 and although it is dedicated to tourism, has excellent facilities for residents, including “restaurants, bars, schools, a health centre, shops, and a cultural centre,” as Pritchard shared. He added; “In the summer, la Cala de Mijas is awash with music and dancing and its promenade is a lovely spot to socialise.” For a life filled with joy and community under the Spanish sun, the property can be purchased for an average price of €290,000 with a wide selection of villas, homes in urbanisations, and large apartments.
Dating back to Medieval times, the Albox village is just a 45-minute drive inland from the Andalusia coast, with a population of 11, 600. “It is a traditional working Spanish town of which a small percentage are foreign residents,” said Murphy Stevens, Property Specialist at Almeria Homes. “The town has many facilities and services you would expect from a modern small town: shops, banks, post office, restaurants, bars, schools, and a 24-hour medical centre.”
The average price for property in Albox is €275,000, with perfect country homes to spend your days in peace and security.
The Camposol village in Costa Calida is only a 12-minute drive from the beach, with property for as little as €55,000. With just under 5,000 residents, the name of the village, translated as “countryside sun,” proves to be just that, becoming a perfect getaway for foreigners in search of privacy and serenity.
“The costas differ in price subject to how long they have been established,” said Logan Robertson, Sales Agent at Mercers. “The Costa Calida is one of the newer costas and, at present, probably the lowest entry-priced costa due to it still being in its infancy. You can get a small 2-bedroom property for around 55-60,000 euros on urbanisation.” The average price for property in this area is €190,000, although it is often much less, being a newer village in Spain.
Located in Spain´s sunniest part, Costa Blanca, Moraira is a gorgeous gem for foreign residents, who almost always fall in love with the local views and friendly people. “Moraira exudes a unique blend of coastal charm and Mediterranean appeal,” said Angela Philips, salesperson at Select Villas of Moraira. “It has evolved into a vibrant mix of traditional Spanish charm and modern amenities. Its proximity to Alicante and Valencia airports makes it a top choice.”
With an average price of €400,000, Moraira is one of the top places in Spain for a life of balance and beauty.
Nestled on one of the Canary Islands, the Playa Blanca is an unforgettable location, which seems too good to live in, with volcanic landscapes and warm weather all-year-round. Yet “Playa Blanca isn´t just about sunshine and beaches.” as Alasdair Hedley, Head of International at John D Wood and Co said.
“It´s a place rich with unique attractions like the Montaña Roja volcano, and the nearby Timanfaya National Park, famed for their breathtaking volcanic landscapes.” The average price for property in Lanzarote is €400,000, listing unique and enchanting offers of family homes, holiday apartments, and traditional Spanish houses.
