Pedreguer and Gata de Gorgos have renewed their collaboration agreement to strengthen wildfire prevention efforts ahead of the high-risk summer season in the Marina Alta region.
The renewed partnership reinforces coordination between the two neighbouring municipalities in surveillance, prevention and rapid response measures designed to reduce fire risks during periods of extreme heat and dry weather.
Local authorities said the agreement will allow both councils to continue working together in vulnerable rural and forest areas where wildfire danger increases significantly during the summer months.
Joint prevention strategy focuses on high-risk areas
The collaboration includes improving communication between municipalities, coordinating resources and supporting awareness campaigns aimed at preventing accidental fires in natural spaces frequently visited by residents and tourists.
Officials explained that the agreement is particularly important in areas close to forest land, agricultural zones and residential developments surrounded by vegetation.
The renewed cooperation also strengthens coordination between local police forces, emergency services and environmental teams responsible for monitoring shared natural areas between Pedreguer and Gata de Gorgos.
Authorities stressed that prevention and early detection remain among the most effective tools in limiting wildfire damage and protecting both residents and the natural environment.
Municipalities prepare for difficult summer conditions
Like many towns across Alicante province, Pedreguer and Gata continue increasing prevention measures as climate conditions contribute to higher wildfire risks throughout the Valencian Community.
Periods of extreme heat, drought and strong winds have made summer fire seasons increasingly dangerous in recent years, particularly in inland and mountainous areas of the Costa Blanca.
The two municipalities have collaborated on fire prevention initiatives for several years, especially in areas located near protected natural spaces and routes commonly used by hikers and cyclists.
Officials said the renewed agreement reflects the importance of cooperation between municipalities when dealing with environmental risks that extend beyond administrative boundaries.
Fire prevention campaigns continue across Marina Alta
Councils throughout the Marina Alta region have continued reinforcing surveillance and awareness campaigns ahead of summer as authorities prepare for the months traditionally associated with the highest wildfire danger.
Local administrations are also reminding residents and visitors to avoid activities that could trigger fires, particularly in forested and rural areas during periods of elevated temperatures.
The agreement between Pedreguer and Gata forms part of wider regional efforts aimed at protecting natural landscapes and reducing the impact of future wildfires across the Costa Blanca interior.
