Almeria’s bid for ‘Gay Friendly’ city status

ALMERIA City Hall Tourism Department will be present at the ‘Pink Corner’ in Barcelona this weekend to promote the city as a ‘gay friendly’ area. The ‘Pink Corner’ has tourism and leisure proposals for the Lesbian, Gay, Transsexual and Bisexual market, and is part of the International Tourism Salon in Cataluña.

Meanwhile, the PP mayoral candidate for Almeria, the current mayor Luis Rogelio Rodriguez-Comendador, has promised to make Almeria more respectful towards diversity and ensure that no-one be discriminated because of their sexual orientation.

He met with representatives of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transsexual Collective in Almeria, Colega, and promised to sign a protocol of active policies against homophobia, ranging from fines for homophobic insults, to attention for victims of homophobic attacks, as well as a Municipal Observatory for Equality Policies and a monument in memory of those who were imprisoned of killed because of their sexual orientation.

Rodriguez-Comendador was awarded by Colega Andalucia for his attitude towards the collective which they represent.
