THE Costa del Sol needs to improve its cultural offer to encourage more tourists to visit during the winter, according to a study for the Tourism Board.
The study, carried out by the Development and Planning Society (Sopde) for the Tourism Board shows that there are 20,000 fewer hotel places available during the winter, and that tourists spend 55 per cent more during the summer, as well as staying for an average of at least one day longer.
The President of the Tourism Board, Salvador Pendon, pointed out that more cultural activities have to be carried out throughout the year, such as internationally popular shows and concerts, to bring more tourists to the area during the winter.
