Nerja says Torrox will not have the local marina

NERJA Town Hall has said that it is not true that the Junta de Andalucia has given the go-ahead for a marina in Torrox, as announced by Mayor Francisco Muñoz.

The Nerja councillor for Infrastructures, Antonio Garcia, explained that the information they had received from the Andalucian Public Port Agency is “nothing like” the declarations made by Torrox Mayor, and that the Ministry for the Environment is yet to make a decision regarding the exact location of the marina.

The socialist mayor of Torrox had said that the Ministry had chosen the town as the ideal location out of the four proposed, which would mean the marina would be built in the Calaceite area.

Nerja town hall, governed by the conservative Partido Popular, has requested meetings with the Port Agency and the Ministry, and suspect that the declarations were made in hopes of gaining votes in the upcoming Andalucian Elections.

However, Garcia said that the Junta could have developed the marina in the area since 1983, but has done nothing so far.
