Fuengirola mayor’s anti-abortion talk heard worldwide

Conservative Partido Popular (PP) Vice President and Fuengirola Mayor Esperanza Oña’s anti-abortion speech has hit the internet, quickly making its way through cyberspace with views of up to 6,200 per day.

Her mid-February right-to-life speech has been viewed in almost 100 different countries with more than 42,600 hits on YouTube in just three weeks.

Viewers in countries as far ranging as Mexico, Sweden, South Korea, Argentina, Poland and the United States have been among those who have seen the video.

It has also received massive exposure on social media like Twitter and Facebook.

Oña’s hard-hitting speech on February 13, which received strong applause from those present, came in counter-response to a bipartisan proposal from left-wing party Izquierda Unida and the socialist PSOE against legislation introduced to control abortions.

The PP Andalucia vice-president defended the PP’s legitimacy to introduce the reform of current abortion laws, having won the latest general election by an absolute majority and with the right to modify legislation.

According to Oña, the proposed reforms are ‘tougher on death and more generous toward life’.
