ALMERIA exports more than 40 per cent of the country’s horticultural produce, specifically vegetables, according to data compiled by Extenda.
Sonia Ferrer, speaking on behalf of the Junta de Andalucia, said: “In view of its attitude, responsiveness and efforts to find alternatives for horticulture performance, Almeria is reaffirmed as the main supplier of fresh vegetables from Europe.”
Ferrer’s words came during a visit to the Fruit Logistica in Berlin, which she attended with the Junta’s representative for Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment, Jose Manual Ortiz, and the Minister of Agriculture, Elena Viboras.
Ferrer concluded: “Despite the veto from Russia on the import of food products in the EU, and despite the fall in prices of certain products at certain times of the season, Almeria horticulture remains strong.”
