SPECSAVERS Opticas has launched a national Recycle for Sight Month campaign to collect glasses for Lions Clubs International.
The Specsavers Opticas stores in Marbella and Fuengirola have called on local communities to get involved and donate as many pairs of unwanted glasses as possible in an aim to beat the 4,436 collected in the 2013 campaign.
Specsavers are asking community groups, schools and clubs to help them by having a collection and bringing them into their nearest store so glasses don’t go to waste. The campaign runs until April 29 2015 and glasses will be donated to Lions Clubs at the beginning of May.
After donation, glasses will be sent to the Lions Clubs’ recycling plant in Alicante where they are separated and sent upon request to many developing countries, including India and nations in Africa.
Lions Clubs International collects around 70,000 pairs of glasses in their Alicante centre to be redispensed every year, with each pair being hand selected for specific people in need.
