THE crime rate in Malaga Province was 3.2 per cent lower in the first three months of this year than the same period in 2014, the government has announced.State Secretary of Security Francisco Martinez announced the drop at a meeting in Marbella to draw up Costa del Sol security plans for the summer season.Martinez explained that these meetings, which gather Spanish government representatives, local mayors and councillors and police force representatives, are of vital importance to ensure that tourists continue to choose to come to Spain thanks in part to its reputation as a safe destination.Local representatives expressed their satisfaction with the meeting, at which reinforcing citizen safety was discussed along with ways to fight illegal roaming vendors, one of the common ‘plagues’ of the warmer weather.
