ANDY MURRAY launched his Wimbledon under a blazing sun, beating Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan in straight sets. It wasn’t easy however, Murray taking the second in a punishing tie-breaker.
The scores were 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 6-4, with the UK heatwave sending temperatures soaring to 41C on the court.
Third seed Murray has British company in the second round, where he’ll now play Robin Haase of the Netherlands, with Liam Broady, Aljaz Bedene, James Ward and Heather Watson all making it through.
Today (July 1) sees Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams both in action on centre court, while Heather Watson plays her second round match against Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia and Liam Broady takes on the Belgian David Goffin.
