OUTRAGE was sparked amongst cyclists’ and runners’ clubs in Crevillent when several members found dangerous traps on paths, deliberately set to harm people.These traps have been spotted in the Crevillent mountains, an area that draws a large number of mountain cycling enthusiasts from across the Valencian Province.They have spoken out over the issue after a young athlete, cycling in the area known locally as ‘La-Colora,’ collided with a metal cable placed between two trees at head height in the middle of a path, which cut on the man’s neck and knocked him off his bike. Fortunately the injuries were only superficial, although members of the association complained the accident could have been much more serious.Members of the ‘Jaume, El Barbut’ cycling club also spoke of their horror at the discovery of nails stuck to wooden planks, which have caused flat tyres for more than 15 cyclists, and could present a serious hazard for runners and hikers.The alert was posted on Sunday (July 8) on social media platform Facebook and has been shared more than 1,300 timesAuthorities have already been alerted to the issue and are investigating the case.
