IN DISCUSSION: Councillor Inez Plaza (second from left) meets beach-bar proprietors.
THE €300,000 or more required for an Almeria City beach bar could be prohibitive for some concessionaries. “They risk losing their chiringuito unless they can find this kind of money. The newstyle bars could go to business groups with greater financial resources,” warned Ines Plaza, a councillor for the PSOE opposition party at Almeria City Hall, who met proprietors recently. The new installations cost €220,000 but the cost of airconditioning and glazing are excluded from the basic package. On top of that is the concession charge to pay, Plaza said. She and her fellow PSOE councillors are wholly in favour of standardising the chiringuitos, Plaza stressed, but those making the changes should involve the concessionaries.
