HACKED: Trees felled.
RESIDENTS in the Plaza de Toros district complained that Almeria City Council has hacked down their trees.
“We have been getting calls from people who are scandalised at the way the trees have been destroyed,” said Councillor Ines Plaza, from the PSOE party.
“They were there for 20 years and provided the neighbourhood with shade but now municipal workers have torn them out with a digger.”
The trees were removed to remodel pavements but have been destroyed in the process, Plaza said. “They can’t be replanted because they were reduced to splinters, although that could have been avoided if they had been removed correctly.”
It was inconceivable that the council should destroy the few existing trees in Almeria City where vegetation and shade were so necessary, Plaza declared.
