PLANS for the controversial Ibiza Shore TV series have been dumped in the face of opposition from local people who thought the show would embarrass the island. The programme would have formed one of a number of spin-offs of MTV’s original series, Jersey Shore, which have included Geordie Shore and a single series of Gandia Shore, the Costa Blanca franchise, which was cancelled also having received much disapproval from locals. The show’s well-tested format is ‘scripted reality,’ where a group of young people are put in particular situations, with some suggestions as to how the plot may develop, and plied with plenty of booze. That wasn’t the image of Ibiza that island political parties and business associations wanted to push, and the local government, unable to issue a ban, had vowed to do all they could to dissuade the producers from making the show.
