PALMA City Hall has announced plans to refurbish the ‘Gesa’ building starting in September.
The councillor for Urban Development, Antoni Noguera, said that an inspection of the inside of the building had been carried out to determine what state it was in.
He said that the structure was OK but that there were other areas which urgently required work. He pointed out that although the outside, the lifts and the toilets needed repair and some emergency stairs were needed, the views from the roof were spectacular and it would be an amazing location.
The next step, he said, was to decide on a project, but the aim was to make it into a useful and sustainable building.
The façade of the building must be conserved, as it is a certified cultural asset, but plans could include an administrative area, businesses and even a theatre.
