TOURISM appears to be behind a 4.8 per cent fall in unemployment in the Marina Alta area in July according to newly released local figures.
Altogether the month ended with 12,459 registered as jobless in the area, 1,143 fewer than in July 2014 although still a far cry from the 5,000 registered for the same month back in 2007.
Of a total of 631 people who found work during the month, 574 of them did so in the services sector and most were registered in Denia, Calpe and Javea, also suggesting that tourism in the coastal areas is responsible for the improvement.
The construction sector on the other hand continues to suffer with 50 more people joining the unemployment register last month.
