UPDATE: Barcelona will take heart from a crucial victory over El Classico rivals real Madrid with their 91-84 away triumph placing them in excellent standing for the New Year.
Barcelona are now second place in the ACB league, just behind the undefeated Valencia, courtesy of magnificent performances from Justin Doellman and Tomas Satoransky who scored 17 and 16 points respectively.
SUNDAY December 27, will see live on Spanish TV the prestigious first Basketball Clasico of the season, where Real Madrid and Barcelona will face off at the Barclaycard Centre at 7pm.
Sergio Llull, Madrid’s point guard stated: “I expect us to win but it won’t be easy. Barcelona has a great team, with hugely talented players in every position. They are one of the great sides and we’ll need to do things really well if we’re to win”.
Jonas Maciulis, who plays number 8 for Madrid said, “Barcelona are a great side and we’ll need to play like a team and give it our all for 40 minutes. We’re going to try to maintain our tempo and playing style throughout the encounter. It’s always a special occasion because two great teams are facing off and, what’s more, we’re meeting over the Christmas period. We’ve also drawn them in the Euroleague Top 16 so this will be the first of many encounters against them”.
