50 years since Manolo Santana’s legendary Wimbledon win

ON May 24 Marbella paid tribute to its honorary long-time citizen, Manolo Santana, to mark the 50^th anniversary since the Madrid-born tennis star’s win at the Wimbledon Tennis Championship. In the same year, 1966, he was named the world’s number one player.

The simple ceremony to mark the anniversary took place on the beach of El Faro, where the tennis player was surrounded by children and representatives of the local authorities, who expressed their admiration for Santana’s achievements and admiration for the man himself.

The Manolo Santana Racquets Club in Marbella was founded by the star in 1997, and has since enjoyed an unparalleled reputation as an excellent sporting facility along the coast.
