30 ZONES: In various areas which will give priority to pedestrians.
IN an aim to dissuade drivers from using residential and central streets as speedways and to increase pedestrian safety, Velez-Malaga Council is considering creating so-called 30 zones in various areas which would bring the speed limit down to 30 km/h and give priority to pedestrians.
Areas which may become 30 zones are those where accidents happen on a regular basis and those where residents generally complain of speeding traffic, including Avenida de Las Naciones, the area around Colegio Andalucia school and Camino Viejo de Malaga among others, Local Police sources reported.
Another area expected to see this measure brought in is Avenida Juan Carlos I between the El Ingenio and El Tomillar roundabouts where there have been various incidents of walkers being hit by speeding cars on zebra crossings.
