UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY: Spain won both of the European events held in La Herradura.
THE home team was the triumphant winner of the two underwater championships held in La Herradura. Spain came first, both in the 2nd European Underwater Photography Championships and the 1st European Underwater Video Championships which the town hosted, taking first place on both podiums at the award ceremony at the Centro Civico.
Rafael Fernandez Caballero from Madrid and Jesus Osorio from Malaga took the winning photos achieving both the gold and silver medals for Spain while the bronze went to the French team.
Meanwhile in the video championship Jose Carlos Rando, also from Malaga, took the gold while a Dutch team won silver and a German team bronze.
Altogether more than 70 people took part in the Championships, which were organised by the Andalucian and Spanish underwater photography federations in collaboration with Almuñecar Council and the world underwater activity confederation (CMAS).
La Herradura’s waters will greet more camera-wielding divers next week as the Spanish national underwater photography championships are also to be held there from October 19-23.
