POLICE are investigating reports that the driver responsible for the Croydon tram crash which killed seven people was texting whilst behind the wheel.
Londoner Alfred Dorris was arrested after the crash on Wednesday morning and has been released on bail.
Detectives are now checking the 42-year-old’s phone records to see whether he was distracted when the tram sped off the tracks at 40mph.
Seven people were killed and more than 50 injured, several seriously, in one of the city’s worst crashes.
The tram has now been removed from the scene and, on Saturday, dozens of people gathered to lay wreathes and pay their respects to the dead.
