‘Gypsy-looking’ man tries to snatch British toddler in Estepona

A BRITISH woman has contacted police, claiming a ‘gypsy-looking’ man, aged around 50, attempted to grab her two-year-old daughter in Estepona on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old expat claimed a man, calling himself Paco and accompanied by a young boy, approached the girl and tried to start a conversation.  The woman says the man then took the toddler´s hand and tried to walk off with her.  The mother screamed for help, at which point both the man and boy ran off.

The alleged attempt took place around 3pm on a quiet street behind the promenade as the woman was taking her daughter to a dance class.  The man is described as being partly bald, with greying hair, and a scar on the right side of his head.  He was said to have been wearing dark blue trousers and a black shirt at the time of the incident.

Police confirmed they have received a report from the woman and are investigating her claims but consider the episode may have been a misunderstanding.

The woman insists she is not mistaken, commenting, “I have no doubt that man tried to take my daughter.”  She added, “I want him taken off the streets.”

The mother has put the details on a FB page, dated 22 March – over a week ago. Apparently the man is “known as Paco” and the boy as “Alejandro” so they are clearly local characters, and well known to all.
