A TODDLER who was admitted to an Alicante hospital with injuries allegedly inflicted by his mother’s partner, has died. The two-and-a-half year old passed away on Monday night in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital. An autopsy was due to be held. Last Thursday, National Police officers arrested the child’s mother and partner suspected of abuse after they took the wounded youngster to the town’s University Hospital. He was then transferred to Alicante. Two days later, a duty judge in Elche ordered that the couple, aged 25 and 27, be held in custody without bail for the ‘aggression suffered by the child’. It is claimed the pair admitted that the man allegedly hit the toddler with a hard punch to the head that left him unconscious. According to reports, specialists dealt with other injuries that had been sustained prior to the punch.
