A TWELVE-HOUR promotion on the Cabify and Uber platforms will offer customers in Spain a free trip today (Wednesday, September 26). The promotion is to publicise a new campaign with the slogan: ‘In the future everybody fits’. It comes after the well-publicised stand-off between Spanish taxi drivers and rival companies such as Cabify and Uber. According to a press release from union representatives at Unauto VTC, Uber and Cabify services will offer a free journey between the hours of 10am and 10pm in Spain. All would-be passengers can hail a ride free of charge during the stated hours using the Cabify and Uber apps. Cabify have said the FREE-DAY promotion will operate in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla, Alicante and Malaga. Their terms and conditions can be found by clicking here. The initiative arrives just two days before the Council of Ministers in Spain approves the Royal Decree Law that will regulate the licenses of app-based ride-hailing services, scheduled for September 28. The new ruling will empower autonomous communities to control the numbers of app-based ride-hailing services operating. Unauto VTC is expected to appeal the ruling which could see just one app-based ride-hailing vehicle in operation for every 30 taxis on the roads.
